Taking advantage of winter to prepare the coming summer season in South Africa, CCPA Group promoted the Thermo® range along with its distributor, Biofarm, to numerous actors of the livestock industry across the country.
Week of rich exchanges around heat stress with the actors of the livestock industry
CCPA Group was present in South Africa last June with its trusted partner, Biofarm to prepare the kick-off of the next heat stress campaign. Meetings with more than 15 professionals from 10 companies across Gauteng, Western and Eastern Cape provinces were planned.
The ruminant nutritionist, the monogastric product manager and the Africa export manager were able to demonstrate CCPA know-how in heat stress management with the complete Thermo® offer of products dedicated to each species along with its digital tools to assess heat stress risk.
Clients shared their positive feedbacks around the incorporation of CCPA solutions in their feed and prospects appreciated the seriousness of the offer along with the quality of the discussion. Without doubt, the Thermo® products will help south–africans farmers to preserve their animals thermal comfort in the future with the support of Biofarm.

South Africa: one country, numerous levels of heat stress risks
With an area of 1.2 million square kilometres and altitudes ranging from sea level to 3 400 meters, South Africa could boast to over a wide variety of climate conditions. In that light, heat stress risks can only be assessed locally, rather than at a national level.
CCPA Group has developed Thermo®Plan, a tool to plan the risk yearly and locally, based on previous weather and guarantee optimum distribution of the heat stress solutions. Weather datas from a total of 7 cities across South Africa are available. The tool relies on the Temperature-Humidity Index (THI), the best-suited indicator to assess the risk. The peak season is of course January and February with conditions impairing animals’ comfort for 80% up to 100% of the times. Thermo®Plan also demonstrated that the period where solutions are needed start from September to October depending on the area until April.
Global warming impacts are stronger in Africa than the Western Hemisphere and South Africa’s results with Thermo®Plan confirmed that. For instance, the number of days in heat stress risks in January and February had increased by 8 and 6 days per month, nationally and this number could be up to 11 days in Eastern and Western Cape. These striking figures also showcase the importance to reevaluate the risk yearly with Thermo®Plan.
